Feathers Of Onyx #1 is a comic published by Spiral Ink Comics. This story takes us to the land of Astreya, where the townspeople are fed up with the rule of Emperor Asher Finn. We will be following the very stealthy assassin Zura Velostra as she sets out to provide Mr. Finn with relief from his burden of rule. This is a blood-filled action-heavy romp as Zura is not afraid to get her hands dirty. This is a fantasy tale that contains what appears to be the regular gamut of races this genre presents. This is also a world unsurprised by monsters and magic. The inner dialogue is decent and the conversations are realistic and appropriately haughty, though sometimes there are way too many words on a page. However this does seem like a good jumping off point for a new series, I for one am willing to see how this goes.
Some of the characters in this comic are drawn with backstories. What do I mean? Well one guard we see has a scar over his eye which leads one to wonder how it got there. Forehead markings, eye-patches, it is visual things like this that help drag people into a world. Also another immersion-building strongpoint is the faces. Full of life and constantly expressing, they are always adding that extra oomph to what is being said and the tone they used while saying it. The extreme variance in looks between the many creatures seen on the pages make even the background characters seem like they hold a little more weight and are more than just filler.

If you like lady-led stealth tales with hints of palace intrigue, or you’re a fan of the high and mighty being brought down to earth, this might be a good read.
