Freaky Tales #1 is a comic with two stories: Three Thorns: Dealing With Devils Part 1: Power Sources written by Guido Martinez with art by Torn-S and Titanium: Blade written by Marcel Dupree & Joshua Metzger with art by Matteo Leoni. Time for some mini-reviews!
Three Thorns: Dealing With Devils Part 1: Power Sources is a fantasy tale with demons, mystical powers, and obscenely rich nobles. This story stars three women, sisters, all with different abilities/disciplines. We have Gala, a hand-to-hand combatant, Cayla, pretty much an Amazonian barbarian with a big sword, and Seyelia, the mage. The plot starts off with this group of ladies being summoned to a town overrun with demons and immediately getting down to business. This comic has some lengthy fight scenes with blood and gore and unique attacks. There is some light humor here but not enough to make this a comedy. The dialogue here is as straightforward as it can be with Old English. A few pages are wordy but it’s not too bad. The art here is very detailed when it comes to the bodies of the characters and the demons and the environment. The action scenes can be particularly gruesome and they flow very well. All three these ladies have large breasts and two of them are basically wearing bikinis. This comic is 20 pages long.
Titanium: Blade is a futuristic dystopian tale with cyberpunk influences, mechas, and kaijus. At this point I wouldn’t say this comic has a star but it focuses on a group of young people trying to live under the oppressive regime helmed by invasive aliens. The plot is about some of the young people having plans that will help them in their quest to undermine their overlords. There is some action here but this is mostly focused on world-building with a revelation that’ll change everything. If you have ever seen any coming-of-age type of show or movie the dialogue is that with higher stakes. The art here seems like a mix of western and manga styles. From a dilapidated city to a desert, this comic hits up the classic dystopian locations. The faces here are decently detailed and are good at getting the emotions across. The outfits are very 80’s sci-fi with the jackets and random accessories. This comic is 20 pages long.
