Fructus Seminalis is a comic written by Dan Loeb with art by Maxim Mel. A determined creature serves as the focal point as we observe life on a strange planet. This is a science fiction comic about the day-to-day life of an alien-like creature in a different world. The lead character is nameless and appears to be female as it nurses three children at different points in this story. Other creatures make appearances and some more familiar than others. The story begins with this creature gathering fruit before they discover some eggs and decide to take them back to their cave. This takes place on a world that is mostly barren with scarce vegetation. The violence here isn’t bloody or gory. The pacing is a bit fast but you’ll have to slow down at certain moments to keep up as it can get confusing. This has the same tone as a nature documentary with varying levels of intensity. There is no dialogue here, only rare yells. This is a comic that focuses on a singular creature and gives us a look at its day-to-day in a world different from ours.
The art here is drawn in a somewhat cartoonish style with a significant focus on the shading. The colors here are primarily purple and light, almost neon, green. The scenery mainly consists of long stretches of rocky landscape with scarce vegetation. Some areas feature more of one than the other. The main location is the cave that the creature treats like a home. The backgrounds always show the scene which is helpful for a story like this. The expression level here is a bit low as the main way these creatures convey emotion is with their eyes and brows. Some of the looks are easy to decipher like sadness and anger while others will take a bit more focus. The creature has three elephant-like snouts, three-fingered hands, two nostril slits, and bird-like feet. The violence isn’t very graphic and the scene itself is quick.
