God Summoner Chapter 2 is a comic created by Dionysis Zogaris with art by Manos Lagouvardos. One thing I’ve noticed in my extensive comic reading is that when the first issue runs hot the follow up tends to dial it back. And that’s the case here. At first. This issue starts off with character-building and lore but it puts things into practice real quick. This time around the story takes place in America, not Zaros. And it focuses on the father and daughter pair Belmont and Adelice. The problem with setup comics are that they tend to dump lore and important information in unrealistic conversations and it’s obviously just for the read. Not here! Here we have great dialogues and conversations that will peak your interest. You can feel the bond between parent and child through the page. And the pacing is great; you’ll never feel like you’re reading a textbook.
The art here is still drawn with great attention to detail. The wrinkles on the face, creases in the hands, it is things like this that make the characters look full of life. The estate that this story takes on is good looking house. We don’t see that much of the interior specifics but we do traverse all over it. And from the cover we can see that Adelice has some hot hands and it looks even better in action. Powers aren’t hard to show onscreen but they rarely look as good as they do here. I can’t end this without applauding the expressiveness of the characters. From the faces they make to the way they talk using their hands it makes everything seem a bit more real.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like fantasy tales with high stakes and uncertainty you should start this series. This also has powerful women doing important things.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“Don’t you think you smoked enough?”
