God Summoner Chapter 4 is a comic created by Dionysis Zogaris with art by Manos Lagouvardos. We finally learn how the world of Zaros became this way and what other threats are lurking in the shadows. This issue gives us ample backstory and plenty of present day heroics as the infidels fight back. The young woman at the center of all is Adelice Belmont, a God Summoner who is trying to fix multiple problems that have all been caused by the ruler Yram. We also have Barthel, the leader of the infidels who is fighting against the tyranny of those who reside in the Citadel. The plot isn’t confusing but you may want to refresh your memory from earlier issue as we get into the nitty-gritty of why things are the way they are now. And even though a few past questions are answered here you will still be left with gaps that need to filled; so all the mystery and intrigue is not lost. There is a great balance here between the action and the story but things do get a bit gruesome and there is some death. Most scenes involving the infidels have an air of uncertainty and stress as they are always looking over their shoulders. The dialogue uses some older English which fits the time period but you should still be able to understand it all. Pages aren’t wordy here unless it’s time to explain something in which case they get a bit heavy, but these slower moments are spaced out nicely. This penultimate issue provides us with answers, more questions, excitement, and will have impatiently waiting for the next installment.
This comic is drawn in black-and-white and has all the detail you might come to expect from colorless art. There is such a high amount of detail in the background and buildings that each scene has added weight. From stones making up the walls to the tiles on the floor to the bark on the trees, the pages are teeming with personality. Speaking of personality, our characters are oozing with it. The intense detail in the art is not spared on the faces and due to this we can see every emotion they feel clear as day. The scars, stress, and just exhaustion can be viewed easily as the people we see tend not to hide how they feel. We do get to see some interesting creatures throughout this journey that will catch your eye. The equipment we will see used the most is a gun but if someone is getting attack here it is probably with magic. And in spite of the lack of color the magic tends to stand out on the page. The action scenes are delight to watch as a lot goes on and there are many things to look at. There are deaths smattered about and some goriness. The outfits are made for the cold with detail all the way down to the buttons.
