God Summoner Chapter 5 is a comic created by Dionysis Zogaris with art by Manos Lagouvardos. Yram is holding all the cards as she plans to force Adelice to assist her with the summoning of Zalmoxis. This is the final issue of a series with a strong cast of characters and a story that will keep you engaged while tugging at your heartstrings. Adelice is the leading lady and she has powers that have made her a target and have put her family in danger. With her is her father Francis who used to be close friends with both Yram and her brother Barthel. Yram is the Grand Summoner who has been attempting to expand her rule while facing resistance. This is a story that will look different depending on which character you focus on. Some feel betrayed, some just see others as evil, while some are just trying to make things right. We will get hints at deeper motivations and glimpses of past histories that shape the way these people think. This story takes place both in the world of Zaros and Earth, which they travel between using mirrors. Zaros seems barren and gloomy whereas Earth looks pretty normal. There is a lot of action here with things getting gruesome and/or bloody on a number of different occasions. The pacing here is great and the intensity is high as the ramifications are made clear early on. The dialogue is well done with conversations full of feelings and information. A few pages do get a bit word-heavy but because they are conversational you might not notice. This issue does a wonderful job of closing out the series and it gives us a satisfying conclusion for each prominent character contained within.

            This comic features some highly detailed black-and-white art. The scenery looks gorgeous from the leaves in the trees to the incisions in stone. Backgrounds persist throughout the panels more often than not. We’ll visit two main locations: the home of Adelice and Francis on Earth and the Citadel in Zaros. Both the interior and exterior of the Citadel feature ornate designs and a sense of style seen in cathedrals. The expression level here is high especially on the leads. The faces are so full of the little details even when further away from the page that it really helps you feel what they feel. Across this large cast of characters we’ll see a large range of emotions from sadness and anger to resignation and sympathy. The main weapon used here is a sort of combination between an axe and a gun. The mystical effects here look stupendous and stand out on every page. The action here gets bloody and gruesome with little breaks between the larger scenes.

If you like low fantasy stories with two groups led by women going head-to-head with drama and history between the two sides while showcasing mystical powers and dealing with higher beings then this is for you.
