Hell on Heels #1 is a comic created and written by Daniel Martinez with art by Guilherme Raffide and colors by Damir Rosic. A trio of sisters take down evil men the best way they know how. This is a stealthy thriller starring three women in college who moonlight as ruthless killers. The seemingly oldest sister is Bella Storm, she normally runs point on their missions and is the most determined to see these guys go down. The possible middle sister is Sienna Storm, she is takes little convincing to go on another “outing”. Riley Storm appears to be the youngest and is the closest thing these sisters have to a voice of reason. These three frequently hang out together and have apparently had an upbringing that has helped them greatly in their current line of work. The story begins with the Storm sisters going to class at UCLA, after which they leave to work out and train, before finally heading out on a mission. Their mission takes place at a club where they’ll attempt to lure out their target. The violence here is very bloody with a decent amount of gore that usually involves knives. The pacing is steady and the tone is a bit lighthearted. The tense moments are usually reserved for people other than the sisters and there are more than a few. The dialogue is mostly conversational with a good amount of back-and-forth and there is narration from different sisters as well as their targets. The dialogue can get cheesy and a bit cringey with the jokes and there are many puns. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a thrilling debut comic that stars an attractive and intelligent trio who like to get down and dirty in their quest to take down evil people.
The art here is very detailed and drawn in a modern style with realistic shading. The color range is huge with a lot of variety on every page. Outside of some ocean views and the greenery on UCLA’s campus there isn’t much natural scenery. These ladies move all over the place from the aforementioned college campus to their very nice and expensive-looking mansion to a few different clubs and bars. The backgrounds tend to show the area they are in but on the rare occasion they don’t it’ll be a purposefully slightly smudgy color gradient. The expression level here is about average as these ladies almost always have a smile on their face. The emotional range is mainly real and fake happiness with some quick anger. The faces have strong features from the eyebrows o the mouths so every expression they make comes across clearly. The violence here is administered using an array of weapons but it always gets bloody with varying levels of gore. There are more than a few action scenes but they never go longer than a page each. These ladies get naked randomly and are always wearing something sexy and/or revealing.
The writer of this comic Daniel Martinez has tragically passed away and there is a GoFundMe for his family that you can donate to here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/community-aid-for-daniels-familys-future?utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet-first-launch
