Hell on Heels #2 is a comic written by Daniel Martinez with art by Guilherme Raffide with colors by Damir Rosic. The Storm sisters make plans to take down a senator. This is a stealthy crime thriller with brutal violence, political intrigue, celebrity drama and three leading ladies. The three sisters in assumed age order are: Bella, Sienna, and Riley. Bella generally acts as the leader and is a gym rat, Sienna wears glasses and does kickboxing, and Riley is into tech and jiu-jitsu. They all attend UCLA and were former child stars; they like to spend their free time killing evil men who have avoided justice. This story begins where the last issue ended, with the Senator Joe Tippman confronting them with a childhood picture and asking them who they are. They tell him their father Lucious Storm was former CIA and he quickly makes an exit as he had a history with him. This takes place in Los Angeles in generally affluent areas. The violence here has blood and gruesomeness with a bit of gore. The pacing here is steady and it has the tone of a spy thriller mixed with an assassin flick. There are many violently and dramatically intense moments. The dialogue is conversational with a number of quips and mini lore dumps; there is also some thought narration from different characters. There aren’t any word-heavy pages here though one gets close. This is an intriguing sequel issue that expands on its characters and showcases their talents while telling a familiar story of vigilantism and revenge.
The art here is a drawn in a smoothly detailed modern style with decent lighting and shading. The color palette is realistic and has pretty wide range overall. For scenery we have a lengthy beach with a nice view of the ocean in addition to the trees scattered about the city. There are a number of locations seen here including a mansion in the Palisades, a restaurant, UCLA, upscale hotels, and even a movie premiere. The backgrounds usually show the actual surroundings but on occasion it’ll be a gradient color with effects. The expression level here is below average as these ladies consistently maintain a smiling face that is step short of being uncanny. Emotions we’ll see are anger, fear, shock, and happiness. The faces have an overall good amount of details so the different expressions are usually clear. The weapons used here can vary greatly from blades to less conventional objects. Violence here can be bloody with light gore but it is mainly gruesome and a bit unpleasant. The action scenes tend to be short and to the point with a smooth flow and they rarely take up more than half a page. All three of these sisters look like models and they are curvy with large breasts.
