Hollowed #3 is a comic written by Casey Bowker with art by Darius Johnson. Our two detectives still can’t get along but they manage to make some progress on the case. While the series started in Chicago it is now firmly entrenched in Buffalo. Vasquez Guerra hails from the Windy City and has taken over this case whereas Tyler Gorman is in a bad place mentally after losing his partner and being forced into this team up. I can count at least three different directions this plot goes with regards to the various characters and it’s one of those situations where we’ll just have to see what happens. There is a decent amount of action here, possibly the most we’ve seen so far in this series. This issue is significantly less wordy than the last but it still has a few hotspots. It reads more like a conversation than a book though. These characters do a lot of talking. After a slowed-down second issue this series is starting to pick up the pace again.
It seems like for this issue they took the art style of the first one and combined it with the coloring of the second to bring us something that looks very nice. However, this style has backgrounds fade out of scenes once we’ve established a location. But this won’t leave you confused about where the characters are. One thing this series has maintained throughout is the detail in the faces. Between the wear-and-tear on the skin and the eye movement we can learn a little bit about this cast without reading a word. The fight scenes flow well and the attacks look like they hurt. I think every woman in this issue has a wagon.
