Hollowed #4 is a comic written by Casey Bowker with art by Darius Johnson. There are big revelations this issue and the drama gets a little less thick. Vasquez and Gorman have to deal with a woman who might be a suspect and in doing so are introduced to a lawyer with a lot of power named Sylvia Saint. Their interaction with her is the fire starter for the rest of this story. There is some physical action in this story but the majority of the conflict is arguments. You ever watch Law & Order? Remember the part where the defense attorneys argue with the detectives and the DA? That’s what it’s like. And that’s what it reads like, as there are paragraphs aplenty. A bunch of words to read. Dialogue is realistic for the most part though there is a little cheesiness thrown in there. This series reaches a new high with this issue as the stakes are significantly raised.
Almost the entirety of this story takes place inside of the police station so nothing particularly stands out. The characters are very expressive; they use their whole bodies to talk most of the time. The high details in their faces make them seem more alive and you will see many different looks from everyone in this story. There are some special effects in this issue that I can’t get into due to spoilers but it does drive home the point. Most of the action here is spoken but when it does get down and dirty it is swift and looks painful. Are the women here sexualized? Well there were eight specific shots on women’s butts, and all the ladies are thick.
