Horus in Hell #1 is a comic written by Allen Dunford & Will Radford with art by Kit Wallis. A former war hero in Hell’s Army is reduced to being part of a Magician’s trick. This is a very violent supernatural comic with comedic elements that stars an angry and aggressive rabbit. The rabbit in question is Horus, after living an extremely violent life battling angels he now finds himself paired up with a consistently drunk magician. The magician is named Pocus, he is skilled at pulling creatures from Hell through his hat but he can be very inebriated to the point of passing out. The story begins with a showing of Horus’ combat skills in a brutal battle between the denizens of Hell and some angels. As this conflict nears its end Horus is grabbed by an unknown hand and pulled towards a portal. This seems to be an alternate version of the Pocus Hocus comics. The violence here is very bloody and gory with body parts going everywhere. The pacing is overall fast as there is plenty of action. The tone is a blend of lighthearted and serious and the intensity is high due to violence. The dialogue is very aggressive and conversational with some narration of Horus’ thoughts. There are no word-heavy pages. This is a violently comedic comic about an angry rabbit and the magician he reluctantly serves.
The art here is detailed and cartoonish with some grittiness to it. The color range here is decent with a lot of pink and notable lighting. For scenery we have a rocky, barren landscape with flames on the outskirts. Besides Hell the only other location is the theater where Pocus does his magic shows. We don’t see much of the theater beyond the front and back of the stage. The backgrounds are split between showing the surroundings and being a, most likely pink, gradient color. The expression level here is high as the characters can get very animated. The main emotions are anger, fear, and happiness, usually alcohol-assisted. The faces have strong features especially the mouths so the different expressions come across clearly. The angels and demons look like their average versions with wings and horns. The violence here is very bloody and gory with spilling guts and limbs all over the place. The action scenes have a lot of panels and flow well.
