HyperGeist #4 is a comic written by Scott Wilke with art by Cari Salviejo and colors by AZ Volt. June gets some of the answers she’s been looking as she is detained by Dr. Strauss. This is a futuristic science fiction comic with strong cyberpunk elements, heavy drama, and robotic violence. The leading lady here is June, she is an android designed for sexual purposes who is searching for the HyperGeist Drive in order to gain free will. Her lover is Ren Nakamoto, he is a police officer in the Android Affairs Unit who helps June whenever he can. Davinci is a engineer/scientist who used to work for Pileus Industries, the company that created June and androids like her. This story begins with June being captured, restrained, and having her memories infiltrated by Dr. Strauss. As he goes through her most treasured recollections he sees that they all involve Officer Ren, usually in intimate moments. This takes place in a cyberpunk world with all the advanced technology and bright screens that entails. The violence here is bloody with gruesome attacks and robotic gore. The pacing here is steady overall with a cold, serious tone and the feel of a Blade Runner-like movie. There are many dramatically and violently intense moments. The dialogue here is conversational with decent back-and-forth and some tech talk. There aren’t any word-heavy pages. This is a riveting issue where we’ll see June’s past be revealed along with her getting some of the answers she’s been seeking.
The art here is drawn in a smoothly detailed modern style with strong lighting and shading. The color palette here can change from a predominantly red, blue, or green. There isn’t any natural scenery as this takes place in a cyberpunk city and usually indoors. The main location is Pileus Industries from secure labs to holding tanks along with other parts of the building. The backgrounds usually show the immediate surroundings but they can occasionally be a gradient color. The expression level here is high as there are strong and intense reactions. Emotions we’ll see in this comic include shock, anger, confusion, happiness, fear, sadness and some sensual ones. The faces have strong features especially in the eyes with most looks coming across strongly. The violence is primarily delivered physically with enhancements and robotic parts. There is a bit of blood and gruesome attacks and robotic gore. The action scene is of a decent length with a smoothish flow and it is interspersed with a different, calmer perspective. June wears a tight and revealing outfit.
