Iverrian: Curse of the Crown #1 is a comic written and illustrated by Luka Brico. Renna is in the process of completing her trial so she can search for Cyra. This is a supernatural fantasy comic with drama and violence that stars two women. There are two leading ladies here, the first one we meet is Renna, she is a skilled hunter who wants to go out and save the fallen. The second woman is Cyra, she is a princess who goes shrines and cleanses them. Though different characters play a role here none are as prominent as these two. The story begins with Renna out in the wilderness hunting an animal in order to complete her trial. As she goes after the creature the story switches to Cyra as she enters a cave with pools of water that she means to cleanse. This takes place in fantasy world with enough real-life similarities to seem familiar. The violence can be heavy-hitting with a little bit of blood and no gore. The pacing is overall faster than average and the tone is like that of a high fantasy story. There many intense moments due to danger and violence with some dramatics strewn in. The dialogue is conversational with a slight Older English speaking style and a decent amount of back-and-forth. There are no word-heavy pages, it’s the opposite. This is an exciting debut issue that gives us a well-rounded look at its two leads while providing us with an interesting look of the world and what goes on in it.
The art here is smoothly detailed with thick outlines and a modern style. The color palette predominantly features purple and blue with a lot of dark tones. The scenery is rocky and stony with not much greenery. The two main locations are the outdoors in general with its hills and thick clouds and the other place is a cave with a pool of water. The backgrounds for these areas can be picturesque and do an overall decent job of showing the surroundings. The expression level here is high as the looks these ladies show are varied and strong. The common emotions are determination, shock, fear, and anger. The faces are very detailed and show the expressions clearly with no confusion. The creatures here look like fantasy variations of real life ones. The violence here involves hammers, arrows, and straight up physicality leading to a bit of blood but no gore. The action scenes are lengthy with a good flow and overall panel count. The ladies here are built like models, wear revealing clothes, and have large breasts. There are also many suggestive poses and angles.
