Iverrian: Curse of the Crown #4 is a comic written and illustrated by Luka Brico. Cyra and Renna are attempting to cleanse a nearby Sunless ruin but meet heavy resistance. This is a supernatural high fantasy comic with heavy spiritual drama, brutal violence, esoteric mystery, and a main cast of women. The leading ladies are two of the three Koranthian princesses, Cyra and Renna. Cyra is an Embersoul who was infected by Shanthra in the past and now her left hand is clawed like an insect. As an Embersoul she has the ability to absorb sunlight and later use it to cleanse sunless shrines. Renna was in training to become a shaman but now she’s decided to find her own path. She is skilled fighter and she wields a broadsword; she also has a horse-like creature named Soteria. There are a few other characters here that have made appearances in other issues. This story begins with Renna having a flashback to when she spoke to the shaman Kai’Rix and discussed the state of the world and her future plans. Back in the present we follow Renna as she meets with Cyra before they head out to find the Sunless ruin. On the way they there they talk about family, current struggles, and the Sunless. This takes place in world with a wide variety of creatures and beings with little being out of the ordinary. The violence here can be gruesome and there is a significant amount of blood along with unpleasant gore. The pacing here goes from slow to fast depending on the conversation and level of action. This has a high fantasy otherworldly tone with some lore that might confuse you. There are many dramatic and violently intense moments as well as constant danger. The dialogue is mainly conversational with good back-and-forth and a Proper English talking style. There aren’t any word heavy pages but the subject matter on some pages can cause it to read slower. This is a riveting issue that ties together loose threads and fleshes out the main characters all while giving us a clearer look at the different threats to this world.
The art here is drawn in a somewhat soft, somewhat roughly, intricately detailed style with a notable focus on lighting. The color palette mainly consists of dark blues and blacks though there are a decent amount of earthier tones. For scenery we have a large and lively forest rife with rocks that is adjacent to a river. The main location is an enormous underground structure formed by the Sunless that has a lake, many chambers, a ventilation system, and a shrine. The backgrounds regularly show the immediate surroundings with occasional cloudy gradients. The expression level here is above-average as these characters react constantly to what goes on. Emotions here tend to lean either aggressive or somber as there are many violent and dramatic moments. The faces here have a good amount of detailed with strong features that lead to nearly all the different expressions being easy to decipher. The Sunless have a very bony appearance with no skin so they end up looking skeletal. The mystical effects tend to be cloudy. Violence is delivered physically for most characters except Renna who uses a sword. There are a number of gruesome attacks that result in a lot of blood and light gore. There are a number of action scenes that have a high panel count and flow smoothly with plenty of angles and varied sequences. All of the women here are curvy with large breasts and there are numerous lewd shots.
