Jinkies #1 is a comic created by Jamie Tyndall & Shawn Hudachko and written by Neo Edmund with art by Dave Santana. An investigation centered on an old mine takes an eerie turn and these sleuths have their lives forever changed. This is a parody of Scooby-Doo that is a bit more serious with a focus on the female members of the group. These leading ladies are Ginger, a redhead dealing with some personal problems and Violet, a very intelligent trust fund baby and Ginger’s best friend. Rounding out the rest of the gang is Harry, Ascot, and the dog Poopy. The plot begins with them scoping out the site and getting to work but the majority of this comic deals with the aftermath of this case. This story takes place in a world where supernatural happenings are strange but not unheard of. There is some action here but it isn’t bloody. There are some sexy moments that’ll sneak up on you. The pacing is steady and the tone goes from silly to sexy to serious frequently. Though there are tense situations the overall vibe of this story is a bit light like a teen cartoon show but it can touch on things with a bit more weight. The dialogue is all modern with some Scooby-Dooish quips thrown in. A few of the pages read like they are word-heavy. This is an interesting take on a classic franchise that has enough of its own charm and personality to make it worth a read.

            The art style here is slightly cartoonish with a wide range of colors and a lot of movement. The scenery here is mostly buildings that have full interiors with plenty to look at. There are two main locations in this tale but a few others are visited, just for a shorter amount of time. What goes on in the various locations will, more often than not, persist in the backgrounds of the character-focused panels. This helps add impact to the scenes. The expression level here is above-average as the characters sport a new look on a nearly panel-by-panel basis. The range here is pretty vast as we’ll see despondent and studious looks one moment and fearful and seductive the next. The faces are drawn with strong enough features(including slightly larger eyes) that most emotions shown are easy to decipher. There are some slight face similarities but nothing that’ll confuse anything important. The supernatural effects are bright and eye-catching and stand out on the page. The action scenes are relatively short and don’t feature any blood or gore. The outfits on the ladies in this comic tend to be tight, the skirts are short, but they do dress for the occasion when necessary. There is nudity here.
