Katfight vs. Notti & Nyce #1 is a comic written by Dolan and published by Merc Publishing and Counterpoint Entertainment. In an effort to steal a snow leopard coat belonging to Genghis Khan, these ladies engage in a 2-on-1 fight. Notti & Nyce are two assassins and that’s all the information I have. I’ve never read their comics before, but maybe I need to. Katfight on the other hand is from the Miss Meow series of comics and she is a supervillain with an intense hatred for the title character. Both sides have different motivations for acquiring the coat which is about as deep as the plot gets. Is this a bad thing? No, this is an action comic with fighting on nearly every page. We aren’t here to look deeper and figure out the meanings behind the actions, we’re just here for the violence. The dialogue is very witty and sometimes funny, and words never take over the page. This is also very fast-paced with little slowdowns. Overall, this comic is a prolonged action scene that doesn’t pretend to be anything but.
The art of this comic had a slightly darker tone than what you’d normally see from Merc Publishing but it fits very well. This is nicely colored with enough bright spots to keep your eyes busy. This story takes place in Beijing at what might be called a palace but I’m not sure. Inside it looks like your average building with some Chinese influences. This is a very expressive comic with most of the looks being malicious and angry. We don’t see too many faces here but the few we do see are drawn uniquely and with above-average detail so we can read what their words aren’t saying. Notti and Nyce are dressed as schoolgirls during this adventure while Katfight has her battle gear on. The action here is all over the place. Guns, spears, suffocation, and even wrestling moves are some of things you’ll see. Are these characters oversexualized? I mean two schoolgirl outfits and a fit that is mostly straps. So the former a little bit, the latter a lot. But this is based on clothing only, not on their actions.
