Lilly & Wepwawet: Return of the Wild is a comic written and illustrated by Tonicmole. The story follows a Lilly, a 24/27-year old(I don’t know if it was a 4 or a 7) who discovers that she has strange creature named Wepwawet with a wide array of abilities as her new friend. We’ll see how Lilly struggles to gain an understanding of this creature and attempts to make sense of her own place in the world. Lilly also takes a trip through time as she searches for answers. On the surface this may look like a comic where a woman goes on a random adventure but the themes discussed go deeper than one might think. But don’t think this is one of those text-heavy comics because this story has its fair share of action mixed in.
“Prioritize the faces” is what I imagine was said before the pen hit the pad. Whereas normally comic heroines have supermodel, chiseled from stone, perfectly symmetrical faces, in this we have a softer more realistic appearance. The Wepwawet has a puzzling appearance that will bring to mind a few different animals and creatures from myths, but with nothing nailed down and fully explained it still retains its uniqueness. Some real animals pop up and they are drawn more accurately than normally depicted.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yeah.
“Would I like this?”
If you want to read something that will make you think and that stars a heroine you should give this a spin.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
An R rating because there are mature themes. I think. I don’t really know what was going on in that scene so let’s just be safe and say R.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“I feel like this was really a bad idea…”
