Liza Ray #2 is a comic created by Dushan Suresh Silva. Liza must undergo training and find a way to get her anger under control so she can get the revenge that she seeks. This is a gritty story in both looks and tone that doesn’t shy away from violence. Our leading lady is Liza Ray, a woman who has died twice and come back both times. Attempting to provide some assistance is David, an agent for the Mutant Counter Terrorist Unit who might be the closest thing Liza has to a friend. The overall plot sees Liza wanting revenge on a mutant who has plagued her life and the means she will go to in order to get it. While she was mostly solo in the first issue this time around we get to see how she interacts with people and how they view her. This story takes place in a very gritty world with some noir vibes as we get a lot of introspection from Liza. The action here is gory and bloody with some limb removal. The pacing is pretty steady as we get some nice solid-length scenes. This does get intense as the stakes get pretty high in a couple of moments. The dialogue is very aggressive and most conversations are filled with sarcasm and palpable anger. Only one wordy page here though a couple other ones get a bit heavy. This is an exciting second issue for a series that gets down and dirty while maintaining an air of mystery as there are still some unanswered questions surrounding Liza.
The art here is dark and rough-looking which isn’t a bad thing as it pairs well with the story. There really aren’t that many colors on display here and the ones that are here tend to be faded. The scenery is mostly industrial buildings and alley ways and the locations follow that same trend. The art gives off the vibe of being in the grimy slums where bad things can happen. The expression level here is a bit low because the main look everyone has is one of anger. The only other consistent look is one of stoicism. The way their emotions come across varies, sometimes they come off strong, other times the faces look blank. The action scenes tend to have some length to them and get bloody and body parts go flying. Liza Ray wears a fishnet shirt that is see-through and her pierced nipples are visible.
