Miss Meow #1: Kickstarter Edition is a comic created by Merc Publishing. One thing you will instantly notice is the presentation; this was made to look like a magazine you might pick up in the checkout aisle at a grocery store. There are even ads for in-world companies in here! Much like how a magazine contains many stories on a wide variety of people, this story also features many different characters with their own agendas. We have Deathrage and his daughter Deathspawn, Miss Meow, Miss Kit, Miss Kat, and Leonidas. All these big names converge at one event; a the Tenth Annual Sand Diego Merc Gala, hosted by Leonidas. Due to various beefs and revelations the night is not as highbrow and fancy as they would like it to be. Now when you read this you might feel a bit lost but I think that was the intention. We’re jumping in the middle of a ongoing story with a bunch of history that we’ll have to slowly learn about. The witty dialogue and overall reality show-level messiness will really keep you engaged.
This is drawn in a nice modern style, with sharp jaws and even more sharp lines. But sometimes they are too sharp. There are a large variety of costumes shown, albeit not as many as we could as this story takes place at a gala. The various characters have their own unique style that we can get hints of in their black tie outfits but we’ll need to see more. The only real problem I have with the art is that a bunch of the faces look similar. It isn’t immersion-ruining bad but it would have been much better if each character could look a bit more unique. The faces are above averagely expressive though.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like superheroes that can’t get along you should read this. Women outnumber men in the main cast by a ratio of at least 2:1. Also a good read for fans of reality show drama.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG-13.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“I wonder who will start a fight this year!”
