Mother Trucker #2: The Cut-Off is a comic written and drawn by “The Animal” Bob Anger with colors by Tatto Caballero. Mother Trucker is on a win streak but has to make a pit stop for repairs. In this issue we get backstory, a revelation, and some good ol’ wrasslin. The star of this story is Mother Trucker; a woman who doesn’t remember her past but knows how to fight. She is no-nonsense and very to the point but has a bit of a temper. We also meet some real characters with as much gumption as our lead. The plot starts off with some backstory then launches us back into the present and gives us some fun interactions and introduces us to new people. The main things we’ll see are Mother Trucker almost getting into fights and actually getting into fights. So yes, this is a pretty intense issue with some good fighting both physically and verbally. The dialogue consists of things said with a 1980’s pro wrestler tone that you can’t speak with out loud unless you are flexing. Some pages do get wordy but it won’t bog you down. This is a great sequel that fleshes the story out and gives us some excitement now and also something to look forward to.
The art here looks like something from an older time and it has a gritty atmosphere about it. This issue has a wider color palette than the first and there is a lot of flash. This comic takes place at Big Momma Burgers, a burger joint that seems pretty chill and that has a gas station and a garage attached. The restaurant looks like something you’d see in the 70’s or 80’s. The people here are very expressive and do a lot of posturing when they talk. The faces here drip with emotion which will leave you with no questions about how they are feeling. There is a bit of face sameness going but the styles are so different and unique that you won’t get confused. The bodies here are very muscular and everybody has great abs. The action is hard hitting but not bloody and even if you’ve never seen a pro wrestling match before you shouldn’t get lost. The outfits here look like they are a part of as-of-yet unexplained gimmicks; this makes you wonder about the backstory of certain characters. Mother Trucker practices some strategic nudity here but if anything she and other characters here are undersexualized in the world of the comic. Hard nipple are rampant.
