Myth Makers #1 is a comic written & lettered by Moroni Aguilar with pencil & inks by Przemyslaw Dedelis and colors by DC Alonso. Superheroes from all over the world must work together to stop a great evil. This is a superfolk comic with supernatural and science fiction elements, frequent violence, a bit of drama, and a large cast. The heroine from Mexico is Gravedad, she can control gravity and is a pro wrestler. The heroes from Japan are the Crimson Warrior, a mysterious man who looks like Power Ranger with a large sword, and Star Fragment, a magical girl with ice magic among other spells. The heroes from the USA are Devil Dog, a marine vet with a combat suit, and T-Volt, a punk rock fan with electricity powers. A couple other heroes are Frequency, she can control sound, and Crypto, he’s super smart and has animal strength. This story begins with Gravedad wrestling El Hombre in what looks to be a warehouse. When Gravedad gets El Hombre in a chokehold his eyes turn white and he starts to foam at the mouth, she releases him and he transforms into a large, demonic looking beast and begins to attack the referee. This takes place in a world where superpowers and strange creatures aren’t too out of the ordinary. The violence here is hard-hitting and bloody with light gruesomeness and gore. The pacing is overall steady with some fast moments and the tone is like that of a superhero ensemble movie. There are many intense moments here due to violence and a couple due to drama. The dialogue here is very conversational with a lot of back-and-forth with a humorous tone sometimes. There are no word-heavy pages but a couple of them get close. This is a thrilling debut issue that gives us a large and varied cast and puts them in a story that can be very violent and a tad bit humorous.
The art here is detailed and lightly cartoonish while looking like something from the late 90’s/early 2000’s. The color range is wide with the palette changing depending on the country they’re in but as this takes place at the night most of them are darker in tone. For natural scenery we’ll see the trees in the Mexican rainforest but outside of this there isn’t much. The location changes for a variety of reasons from a warehouse in Mexico City to a busy street in Tokyo to another warehouse in Los Angeles. The backgrounds for these areas don’t show the immediate surroundings as much as they could with gradient color and action-line filled backdrops being more common. The expression level here is around average with a number of characters wearing masks that obscure either the eyes or the mouth. Emotions we’ll see here include shock, anger confusion, happiness, and determination. The faces have a decent to above-average amount of detail and they tend to show the different expressions clearly. The magical effects are neon-like brightness. The weapons used here include blades, chains, and fists. The violence can get a tad bit gruesome with some blood but no gore. The action scenes come in short bursts and are frequent with a good amount of panels and a smooth flow. Some of women here wear costumes that can be suggestive and/or revealing as well as form-fitting.
