Nothing-Man #1 is a comic created by John Rhodes and published by Hyperverse Comics. For a debut comic there is a lot going on. Our main focus is on nameless man who is being chased by armed men in snow-filled woods. Our view will then shift between three different viewpoints. First, the armed troops currently in pursuit of our John Doe. Second, to a city currently under occupation by superpowered individuals called Hyprids. Third, we follow to the military attempting to regain control of said city. This story does hop around a bit and though it does converge at some points it may take a couple reads to get the gist. I don’t see this as a negative because it is a first issue in a series and it is attempting to lay groundwork for an expansive world. And seeing how this is the first of currently 5 issues with multiple spin-offs, I’d say it succeeded.
A problem that tends to creep up in comics with large casts is that they can get redundant. Characters have the same hairstyle, outfits are too similar, faces are exactly the same, things like that. But this comic does not suffer from those problems. The outfits give off enough personality, there is different hair all over the place, and the faces are varied and full of expression. The art style seen in this issue gives off more of a 90’s vibe than the shiny and smooth look of modern day comics. And this comic is chock full of color, as can be expected of the genre.
“Is this worth reading?”
Definitely.
“Would I like this?”
If you like anything pertaining to superheroes this is a good read.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
About halfway between PG and PG-13.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“John Doe? That just sounds stupid.”
