PRINCE-S STARthief #1 is a comic written, colored, and lettered by Jason Martin with artwork and shading by Winston Young. A woman with a large amount of gadgets at her disposal attempts a burglary. This is a sci-fi tale with clear influences from franchises Star Wars and Alien and led by a very talkative woman. The woman in question is as of yet nameless but we do know she is a/is named PRINCE-S. She looks like Princess Leia in A New Hope but with red hair. The plot here is pretty simple: this woman is trying to steal something for reasons that aren’t made clear at first. The action here is pretty light and nothing rough happens. The pace is steady and just about every act is shown. Things do get intense at some point but it’s pretty upbeat the rest of the way. Now when it comes to the dialogue there are two things you need to know: when a new gadget is introduced/used there will be a sentence accompanying it telling us its name and what it does, the lead character talks frequently, but in very broken English. You may have trouble making out what she is saying. Fortunately there are no wordy pages. This is an adventurous comic where we follow an interesting woman partake in thievery.
This is a very eye-catching art style with most of the colors being on the red or blue spectrum. The backgrounds are mostly metal and rock walls so there isn’t much to see there. There is an atmosphere here that will feel familiar to those who have indulged in space operas. Only one location here and it is a high-tech storage bunker floating in space. The detail on PRINCE-S’s face is good enough for her to display emotions well but we don’t really get much range from her. The looks we do see are done well but it’s a shame we didn’t get to see more. The creatures here seem to be inspired by the Alien from the franchise of the same name. Some of the equipment used here function similar to things you may have seen in other sci-fi stories but with different looks. The action scenes are very easy to follow and occasionally involve lasers. Our heroine wears a revealing leotard that doesn’t leave much to the imagination.
I’ve finally done it. This is the comic I wanted to see a review for but none existed which led to me reviewing the comics I had and putting them on this site. The sequel to this was on Kickstarter and I just wanted to know if this series was up my alley cause I was kinda broke and couldn’t afford to get burned anymore. There were no reviews, so I passed on it until the third issue was being crowdfunded and now I got em.
