Seeing Red #2 is a comic created by Marcel Dupree and Mannix Francisco. After a rash decision leads to her being reprimanded Ella must adapt to her new situation. If the first issue is exciting, the second one usually isn’t. Not in this case. This issue introduces some new characters and interesting motivations for our “heroine”. Our main character is Ella, a red-headed woman who is very good at fighting but sometimes lets her emotions get in the way. The most prominent of the new folk is a half-demon named Short Tail who isn’t what others think he is. The plot focuses on Ella’s handling of what is now her new normal and what that fully entails. There is a lot of fighting with the blood and guts on full display. The dialogue from Ella is very snarky and tense as she is a very angry person; overall everything reads smooth. No overly wordy pages will be found here. This is a comic that exceeds both the story and action of the previous issue while giving us a lot to anticipate in the future.
This comic has a slightly washed out look when it comes to the colors which helps add to the gloomy and rough feel of the world. We get nice views of the different locations when we first see them but afterwards the backgrounds tend to become little more than a solid color. This isn’t the most expressive comic but it is at least average. Ella’s face has above-average detail but anger is the main expression you’ll see run across it. No face sameness here. You ever seen a orc with pig-like features? That’s what Short Tail looks like. The outfits here are standard fantasy fare with a significant lack of clothing on all the genders. The action scenes here are mostly easy to follow but you might get tripped up a bit; and they are not afraid to get gruesome. Though her clothes do go missing from time to time I wouldn’t say Ella is oversexualized.
