She Brings A Devil #1 is a comic written by Ryan Cummins & Michele Gibson with art by Zoran Jovicic and colors by Bryan Magnaye. This detective stumbles across a case that involves missing people and demonic forces. This is a supernatural noir comic that takes place in the 1930’s/40’s with heavy drama, gratuitous gore, and thick mystery. The main man here is Miles Dixon, he is a private investigator who has been having dreams that seem to be affecting him in real life. He has a bespectacled friend named Polly who attempts to be a voice of reason. This story begins with Miles attempting to sneak into a mansion under the cover of night and rainfall. He is quickly discovered and rushed inside under guard where he is introduced to the naked host who has been expecting him. Next they head towards a room where an orgy is taking place. The violence here is very bloody and gory with strong gruesomeness. The pacing is steady and the tone is that of a dark and broody noir. There are many dramatically and violent intense moments here. The dialogue here is conversational with good back-and-forth and narration from Miles in a noir fashion. There aren’t any word-heavy pages here. This is an intriguing debut issue that starts with a bang before showing us the dark mysteriousness and high stakes of this story.
The art here is smoothly detailed in a modern style with notable lighting and shading. The color palette consists of a lot of darks from black to grey to red and some faded tones. Besides some quick glimpse of leaves there isn’t any natural scenery here. The location changes a few times as Miles goes about his investigation with some scenes in his classic gumshoe office, a large mansion where you’d expect an orgy to happen, and a seedy-looking underground spot. The backgrounds do a good job of consistently showing the actual surroundings. The expression level here is on the lower as these characters try to maintain an unflinching, stern look despite what goes on. Emotions seen include annoyance, shock, anger, and more sensual ones. The faces have a good amount of detailing and the different expressions come across clearly. The violence here is delivered with and it gets very bloody and gruesome with heavy gore. Action scenes come in bursts and they have an unconfusing flow.
