The Few and Cursed #1 is written by Felipe Cagno with art by Fabiano Neves and colors by Dinei Ribeiro & Ivan Nunes. A gunslinger enters a town that is tormented by a giant snake. This is a supernatural Western comic with gritty vibes that stars a rough woman and has heavy violence. The leading lady here is called “Red”, she is a redheaded gunfighter with a hard demeanor and the occupation “Curse Chaser”. She is very serious and easily annoyed. This story begins with Red riding through the desert during the day and as night falls she enters the town of Mountain View. She enters the saloon and watches as a group of men attempt to drag a woman outside. This takes place in a world where the Pacific(and I’m assuming the other oceans) has significantly dried up. The action here has light blood and some gore. The pacing is somewhat faster than average and it has a grim Western tone. There are multiple violently intense moments. The dialogue is conversational and aggressive with decent back-and-forth. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is an exciting and intriguing debut issue that shows this tough protagonist in their element as she tries to provide relief to a town bedeviled by a supernatural creature.
The art here is drawn in a somewhat smoothly detailed modern style with decent lighting and shading. The color palette is very dusty Western with variations of brown being the most prominent colors here. For scenery there are hug wide-open stretches of very dry and desolate desert. The primary location is the saloon in the town of Mountain View which has two stories and a wall damaged to the point that you could walk outside. The backgrounds are usually the immediate surroundings though on rare occasions it is a fuzzy/action-line filled gradient. The expression level here is low as the characters are hard, tough, and rarely react. Emotions we’ll primarily see are shock and anger. The faces have an above-average amount of detail and most if not all of the different expressions are clear. The violence is delivered with guns with a significant amount of blood and some heavy gore. There is one main action scene and it has a high panel count with a smooth flow.
