The Lost Tales #1 is a comic created and written by John Chukwudifu. This is a fantasy tale and because this is the starting point you might think it’s the usual character backgrounds and world-building, but this story doesn’t waste too much time getting into the action. I don’t think this was the intention but a lesson you will take away from this is not to play around with magic. But don’t be confused, this isn’t just action with a weak story. We get glimpses, albeit small, into each of what is probably or core group of main characters. We get snapshots into histories and backstories that will be told in the future. I can’t think of anything this first issue did wrong, my only wish is that it had been longer.
Now coming into this I thought it would be one of sharp-jawed, perfectly drawn, extra serious type of art styles, but I’m glad to see it was not. Now don’t misinterpret that to mean that this looks bad, it looks great, and its characters have more personality. We can tell what tone they speak with even before we read the words, the pages could be devoid of letters and you’d still know what was going on. Very expressive faces all over the place and they don’t look the same. There are also quite a few magic powers seen in this comic and it looks fantastic. This makes it easier to picture it happening in real life, with a little extra imagination.
