The Monster’s Cleanup Guy #1 is a comic written by Drew D. Lenhart with art by Rowel Roque. In a town inhabited by werewolves the bodies are starting to pile up. In a town enveloped by the supernatural one man acts as the liaison between the Lycans and the police. That man is named Terry and he is unhappily working for the Lycan King named Damien. Damien has aspirations for greater control and Terry is not a fan of them at all. The plot has both of our leads going through an eventful night involving other supernatural creatures and an interaction with the police. There is some angry werewolf action here and things get as gory as one would expect it to. This story goes from calm to intense rather quickly and maintains that high pretty much the whole way. The dialogue is very realistic and conversational though some pages can get a bit word heavy. This is a good start to a series about someone whose job it is to clean up the messes these otherworldly creatures make.
This comic is drawn in black-and-white which in this case means we get a stronger focus on the little details. Most of this story takes place outside, either in a residential area or out on a street. This is a very expressive comic with the faces displaying the current emotion. The faces have bags under the eyes, stress lines, and you can even pick out individual eyebrow hairs. When looking at untransformed humans we can tell that something is odd about them. The werewolf form has the classic completely hairy look with the privates being completely covered. We do see some other supernatural creatures but we don’t get a close enough look at them. The action here gets gruesome. The scenes are easy to follow and generally end up with bodies not being as together as they should be. This would look a lot worse in color.
