The Perils of Passion #3 is a comic written by Scott Wilke with illustrations by Carlos Rod Silva and colors by Federico P. Sioc Jr.. Passion and Dorian are forced to travel through the Demon Realm. This is a supernatural comic starring former lovers with gratuitous amounts of violence and gore as well as heavy drama and some horror. The leading lady here is Passion, she is a detective of the supernatural and her most recent case involving a succubus has put her life in danger. The main man here is Dorian, he is Passion’s ex-boyfriend and a demon expert. The story begins where the last one left off with this pair attempting to get away from an angry group of demons. Dorian has another compound, but to get there they have to travel through the demon realm. This takes place in a world where supernatural creatures and beings aren’t that uncommon. The action here is extremely bloody and gory with numerous gruesome moments including limb separation. The pacing is steady with a horror-in-a-strange-world kind of vibe. The intensity is high practically the entire time due to danger, violence, and drama. The dialogue is mainly conversation with a lot of back-and-forth along with some narration of Passion’s thoughts. There is only one word-heavy page. This is an exciting issue that raises the already high stakes to another level and we’ll watch these characters develop further as they go through a very violent and dangerous situation.
The art here is drawn in a detailed modern style with strong lighting and shading. The color palette features a lot of dark colors with reds and browns being the most prominent. For scenery we have arid, dry, rocky landscapes with barren trees. The main location for this story is this hellscape that has a number of skyscrapers, a chapel, a small dilapidated town, and various other buildings. Their journey will take them by and through different places in this realm. Most of the time the backgrounds show the near and far surroundings but occasionally it’ll be a gradient color. The expression level here hovers around average as these two characters don’t often veer off their standard face. The emotions featured here include anger, fear, terror, shock, rage, and horror. The faces have a good amount of detail especially in the nose and eyes with most of the different looks coming across clearly but there can be some occasional stiffness. The weapons used here are swords and axes while the demons like to just use their clawed hands. There are gratuitous amounts of blood, many gruesome attacks, and limbs everywhere along with guts. The action scenes come in bursts and tend to flow well with a good amount of panels. Both of these leads are wearing skintight clothes and Passion has a “boob window” because her shirt was torn.
