The Vicious Vixens of Dakuwanga #1 is a comic written by Ben Lacy with art by Nico Toran and letters by Nikki Powers. A group of women are forced to work together to escape captivity while on the high seas. This is an action-filled comic with a large cast and high stakes as well as a connection to the Shark of War series. The women here go by nicknames with the head honcho being Big Sis, and her younger sister is known as Lil Sis. The other ladies are: Blondie, Knives, Doc, Fiji, Jamaica, and Fish Hook. The story begins as the ladies are on a boat traveling to their new destination and things get interesting almost immediately. Throughout the course of this comic we’ll see how some of these ladies earned their nicknames and get a closer look at what exactly is going on. There is a strong theme of desperation and survival here. The action here is very bloody with plenty of gruesome and gory shots. The pacing is slower than average and the tone is uneasy as these ladies are on edge the entire time. This is intense almost all the way through with a few moments of calm. The dialogue is mostly conversational and is very aggressive and angry with it occasionally becoming soft. There are at least a couple wordy pages. This is an exciting debut comic starring a large all-woman cast with a story that’ll have you on your toes and anticipating the next issue.
The art style here is somewhat cartoonish with plenty of shading and a wide range of colors. The scenery here is either the open sea or an island with unidentifiable trees and so much sand. The two main locations are a beach and a boat and they provide different atmospheres. The panel backgrounds are excellently done as they always contain scene elements that keep you locked into each moment. The expression level here is quite high with most of these women wearing their emotions on their sleeves. The range is vast with things going from somber and angry to happy and determined. The faces have strong features that show the different looks well but they can occasionally look odd. None of these women share a hairstyle. The action here is very bloody and gets gory with the scenes having some length to them. Everything flows well and there are plenty of panels for every moment in a fight. Most of the women here have on beachwear but they aren’t oversexualized.
