Vanya: The Lost Warrior #2 is a comic written by Mike Tener with Aly Dunn, illustrated by Zoran Jovicic, and colored by Bryan Magnaye. This newly formed trio of Vanya, Reed, and Serah set out to find the hidden armories. This is a futuristic science fiction comic that is violent, sex-heavy, and it takes place in prehistoric times. The leading lady here is Vanya, she is a skilled combatant who applied to be an Astral Guard and was sent back to the past to work on her survival skills for a year and she is currently eight months in. Reed is a man who was also sent back to the past as a part of his survival training. Serah is a woman who was friends with Vanya in the future and she was sent back to the past about two months after she was. This story begins with Serah recounting the attack by the Torridians that caused rampant destruction. Because of this all the fit and able people were recruited and sent back to the past in order to bring back the other Time Guards. An error with the drop gates caused everyone to be separated and forced them to work on their own. The prehistoric time this takes place has dinosaurs and larger, more dangerous version of animals we have now. The violence here is bloody with gruesomeness and heavy gore. There is a lot of graphic sex here. The pacing is fast overall due the number of pages without or with a low amount of words. The tone is like a more salacious version of a comic like Jungle Girl. There are some intense moments brought on by violence and danger. The dialogue is conversational with a modern talking style and occasional narration from Vanya. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is an interesting and relatively calm sequel issue where our characters are forced to change their plans as this story takes a dire turn.
The art here is somewhat smoothly detailed and drawn in a modern style. The color palette here is predominantly brown and green with a significant amount of rocky gray. The scenery and the primary location are one and the same as this takes place in a thick jungle. There are winding trees, waterfalls into lakes, and hidden caves. The backgrounds are consistent when it comes to showing the actual surroundings; this adds something extra to each scene. The expression level here is around average as these characters like to maintain a hard look outside of sensual moments. The emotions we’ll see outside of sexual scenes include shock and determination. The faces have a decent to above-average amount of detail with the different expressions usually coming across clearly. The violence is delivered physically and with bows and arrows. There are gruesome attacks that lead to body part removal and a decent bit of blood. There is really only one action scene and it flows smoothly. All the characters here are either naked or are wearing revealing clothes.
