Vanya: The Lost Warrior #3 is a comic written by Alyza Dunn with art by Zoran Jovicic. This trio of potential Time Guards will cross paths with strange creatures as they trek through the jungle. This is a futuristic science fiction comic that takes place in prehistoric times has heavy violence and a lot of sex. The leading lady here is Vanya, she is a Time Guard that was sent to the past to hone her survival skills. Reed is in the same boat as Vanya as he was sent back before. Serah was sent to the past more recently than the others due to an attack in the future; her task was to bring the other Time Guards back. This story begins with this trio traveling through the jungle looking for an armory and on the way they’ll see large animals and odd-behaving dinosaurs. The perspective then shifts to the Bone King and his tribe as they begin a ritual to renew connections to the primal spirit and each other. This prehistoric world is full of dinosaurs and large versions of creature we have today. The violence here is very bloody with gruesomeness leading to heavy gore. There is a lot of graphic sex here. The pacing is faster than average due to a lack of talking with the tone of a Jungle Fantasy comic. There are some violently intense moments. The dialogue is conversational with rare thought narration from Vanya. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is a sex-heavy issue that moves the story forward and forces our main characters to adapt to difficult situations once again.
The art here is drawn in a smoothly detailed modern style that is a bit reminiscent of comics from the 70’s and 80’s. The “Jungle” color palette is being used here with many different greens and browns along with black and gray. As this takes place outdoors we’ll see plenty of trees, varied foliage, and some caves. The backgrounds usually show the actual surroundings so each scene has more impact. The expression level here is a slight bit below average as hard looks are the norm. Besides the more sensual emotions we’ll see some shock, anger, and some sadness. The faces have a decent to average amount of detail especially in the eyes and most looks will come across clearly. The violence here is delivered physically and with weapons like swords. There are multiple gruesome attacks that lead to heavy gore and a significant amount of blood. The action scenes tend to flow well and at one point are interspersed with sex. Nudity is the most common outfit with bare minimum clothing being a close second.
