Warbound #1 is a comic created by Marcel Dupree and published by Evoluzione Publishing. It tells the story of an immortal super-powered individual named Warbound who is on a one man crusade against an evil sorcerer. His crusade has hit a snag though as the comic opens with him being locked up in an asylum. We then observe the interactions between him and a Doctor Kendra Jones at she seeks to evaluate him. This comic is mostly backstory and setup akin to a television pilot but it works well here. We get to see Warbound’s motivations and get a taste of his methods as he attempts to complete his task. In addition we are introduced to intriguing characters and get glimpses of a much bigger world being created here.
There is some great art in this comic. The background and scenery really help set the tone for the various environments. The faces are expressive and differentiable, which is something comics sometimes have problems achieving. The clothing and accessories seen help add to the scenes rather than distract. One thing I would like to note is that everything is drawn realistic enough that you could imagine seeing it in real life, and that helps with getting immersed into the story.
“Is this worth reading?”
Yes.
“Would I like this?”
If you like action, superheroes, or men on a mission, this is a good read. If you were looking for a black-centric or African-rooted story you should give this a try.
“What would this comic’s film rating be?”
PG-13.
“Could I get a quote from the comic?”
“What do you think I did? I went on a rampage.”
