Yum Toast #2 is a comic created by Terrell Culbert. As sinister plans are moving forward in the present we get a look at Detective Blue’s past. This is a supernatural mystery comic with sprinkles of violence, plenty of drama, and a whole lot of sexiness. The main man for this tale is Detective Blue, he is the self-proclaimed “Top Cop” of the city and he is attempting to stay ahead of his past. Lisa Irma is a journalist who is on the trail of the “Yum Toast Killer” and she lives in the same apartment complex as the most recent victim. April June lives in the same complex and is known for her nighttime activities with different partners. A few of the other characters with prominent roles here are: Mayor Grim, Detective Jones, and Alicia Mayor. The story begins with an important look at Detective Blue’s past before moving to the present where Lisa is trying to get some sleep but April and her guest are loudly having “fun”. Awake and annoyed, Lisa calls up Detective Blue and they set up a coffee date. The pacing here is steady with a mysterious and semi-noir tone. The intense moments here are brought upon by violence, danger, and horniness. The dialogue is modern and conversational with good back-and-forth and a relatively light amount of narration. There are no word-heavy pages. This is a sequel issue that highlights some new characters while excitingly moving the story forward using revelations and drama.
The art here is detailed and semi-cartoonish with notable lighting and shading. The color range is decent with a good balance of bright and dark tones. Besides some buildings and gnarly trees in the background there isn’t much in the way of scenery. The location changes as the character perspective switches from the ladies in their homes to the detectives in their office or out on the prowl. Coffee shops, strip clubs, and the outdoors are all visited here. The backgrounds are usually a solid color that may or may not contain part of the surroundings. The expression level here is tick below average as most of these characters like to maintain a certain look. The common emotions here are happiness, anger, annoyance, sensuality, and sadness. The faces have a good amount of detail and occasionally get animated with the expressions coming across clearly overall. The violence is mainly physical with some gunplay. There are some gruesome and gory moments with a bit of blood. The action is limited to just a few panels. All the women here are curvy with large breasts.
