Grandma Chainsaw #2 is a comic written by Allen Dunford & Will Radford with art by Brian Balondo with colors by Jasen Smith. Haiden and Gabby run into a group of hunters who want to go on the offensive. This is a supernatural horror comic with comedy and gratuitous violence as well as a large cast. The leading characters here are Haiden and Gabby, they are twins whose significant others were murdered in the house they took refuge in. After leaving said house they ran into The Dead Squad, a six-person group with different weapons and skills. The members are: Fury-Chan, Night Moon, Doc X, 2Ton, Blood Sparrow, and Shadow-Axe. The story begins where the last one left off with these twins meeting The Dead Squad. They are given a quick rundown on Hazel and how she operates before being told that now is the time to attack. This is a very violent story with heavy gore and gruesome attacks. The pacing is steady with a 90’s horror movie tone. There are many intense moments due to violence, fear, danger, and suspense. The dialogue here is conversational and aggressive with exposition, comedy, and frequent back-and-forth. There are no word-heavy pages here. This is an issue that builds on the horrors we’ve already seen with newer characters and an offensive approach.
The art here has decent detailing with a gritty feel and heavy shading and shadows. The color range is overall dark with a lot of black and red. A decent bit of this story takes place in the twisted woods but the trees aren’t very prominent. The main location for this is Hazel’s house which has multiple stories including a basement and it looks like your average older house. Different rooms will be seen and they tend to have notable things about them. The backgrounds tend to be a sparkly gradient color haze that persists even when the surroundings can be seen. The expression level here is around average with a good variety of looks. The most prominent emotions here are fear and anger with terror, irritation, and sinister happiness. The faces here have decent detail and tend to show the different looks well. There is some face sameness here. The violence here is delivered via physicality and weapons with bats and blades being used. Things get very bloody with gruesome attacks leading to unsettling gore. The action scenes can be lengthy and they tend to flow well.
