HyperGeist #5 is a comic written by Scott Wilke with art by Cari Salviejo and colors by AZ Volt. June must battle her creators to save herself and her friends. This is a futuristic science fiction comic with cyberpunk elements, heavy robot violence, and drama surrounding free will. The leading lady here is June, she is an android made for sexual purposes and she’s been searching for the HyperGeist Drive as a way to obtain true free will. Ren Nakamoto is June’s police officer boyfriend in the Android Affairs Unit and Davinci is an engineer and scientist who assists June by giving her upgrades and repairs. This story picks up where the last one left off June fighting back against her captors and their security which includes a number of robots. As more attackers file in June must use a variety of attacks to take them out. This takes place in a futuristic world with the bright and high-tech cyberpunk vibes. This is very violent with some gruesome and bloody moments as well as gore. The pacing is somewhat faster than average and the tone is very sci-fi with a robotic-focus. The intensity is high due to the frequent violence. The dialogue is mainly mid-battle quips from June though there are some conversations had and computer-like talk from the androids. There are no word-heavy pages. This is the exciting finale to June’s riveting story as she attempts to reason with recent revelations and simply survive.
The art here is drawn in a somewhat smoothly detailed modern style with a strong focus on lighting. The color palette has a sci-fi feel with a lot of red, gray, and pink. There isn’t any natural scenery and most of this takes place indoors. The main location is a large facility with a large lab and lengthy hallways. The backgrounds usually show the immediate surroundings like walls and tiles though it can just be a gradient color during some action sequences. The expression level here is a bit above average as the characters here really lean into their feelings. Most of the emotions here are aggressive as this is very violent. The faces have a decent to good amount of detail with the different expressions being easy to decipher. The high-tech equipment has a bright neon glow and can sometimes be surrounded in electricity. Weapons used here include batons, spears, and scythes. The violence features many gruesome attacks the lead to a significant amount of blood and gore(living creatures and robots). The lone action is lengthy with a good flow and different sequences. June wears very little clothing which is appropriate for her line of work.
